At Wayex, safeguarding our customers is of utmost importance. It is crucial to remain vigilant and well-informed about the various cryptocurrency scams prevalent today in order to safeguard your funds and personal information effectively.

Here are some common scams to be wary of:

Investment scams: These scams entice you with the promise of significant returns on minimal initial investments. Scammers employ deceptive websites, fabricated advertisements featuring celebrity endorsements, and manipulated data to gain the trust of potential investors. They assign an "investment manager" who persuades you to invest substantial sums, with the value of your "investment" purportedly skyrocketing. However, when you attempt to withdraw your returns, you may be asked to pay exorbitant fees or taxes, or the scammers may abruptly sever all communication.

Impersonation scams: In this scheme, fraudsters contact you via phone, email, or SMS, impersonating exchanges, banks, or other service providers. They deceive you into authorising transactions, making payments, or divulging personal information. Such actions can compromise your details, enabling the scammers to conduct unauthorised transactions on your accounts.

Recovery scams: This scam commonly targets previous victims of scams. You get a message from a “recovery agent” who tells you that the funds you lost to a scam are now held in an account or wallet for you to claim. All you need to do is transfer them some money to clear the transaction and you will get all the money back! However, once you follow the steps, they may show you some fake tokens or returns that have no value, or they stop all communication with you. How did they know all the details of the previous scam? It’s the same scammers, they have just rebranded their operations. This might also happen if you contact someone online claiming to be a “recovery specialist”. Unfortunately, they cannot actually help you recover any funds, regardless of what they tell you.

Giveaway scams: These scams take various forms, including fake giveaways and airdrops. Scammers impersonate celebrities or exchanges, claiming to offer free cryptocurrency in exchange for sending them some. These fraudulent posts often garner hundreds of likes and comments, appearing authentic and enticing.

Stay alert for the following warning signs:

  • If an offer appears too good to be true, exercise caution as it is likely a scam.

  • Scammers often employ pressure tactics, urging you to make swift transfers or trades. Be wary of such attempts.

  • If you are requested to pay additional fees or taxes to access your own funds, it is likely a scam. These fees may include "security deposits," tier upgrade fees, service fees, or collateral fees.

  • Promises of substantial returns on small initial payments are indicative of a scam.

  • You have been the previous victim of a scam and are told you can recover all the funds you lost

Remember, Wayex does not have representatives contacting users to initiate trades, transfers, or account creation. We will never reach out to you via social media, phone, or email asking you to create an account or transfer funds.

Wayex does not work with any companies or platforms for investment purposes. If someone has said we are partnering with them or asked you to create an account with us to transfer funds for an investment or for any other purpose, it is a scam.

We strongly urge all our customers to conduct thorough research before sending funds anywhere.

Do you feel like you may be a victim of a scam? Take these immediate steps:

  3. Report the incident to your bank and local law enforcement authorities.
